New stand alone single, by Alex Fletcher... back working with Flawedcore Records after a break of 5 years! So good to have him.

Here, as usual, is an email from Alex to Flawedcore about the track:

Hi,

It's slightly political at the moment. I've been listening to some of those comedy agitators like The Iain Duncan Smiths, but it's not really in that format. The first one came about because of my burgeoning interest in psychopathy (I wonder why!) and so I tracked down the initial version of the Hare Psychopathy Checklist assessment - which forms the whole basis of the vocal track. Then I thought I'd want a very spare beat sound, like a machine tick to suit the mood.

In amongst the racket there's another vocal line. I'd been watching the Neuro-scientist James Fallon, who had studied brain scans that showed the effects of various conditions: Alzheimers; schizophrenia, and psychopathy among them. He detected early on a pattern in psychopaths were the entire Limbic System (the frontal cortex, extending in a loop around the hippocampus) was essentially switched off - rendering them basically emotionless. Some years later, he was doing research into Alzheimers and needed 'normals' or control scans to compare with the afflicted ones, so asked his entire family to contribute. One of the results came back showing very obvious psychopathy - and it turned out to be him. He talks about this in a rather jolly tone in a speech he gave and I basically made a transcript of it and recited it, but wanted to make it seem abnormal so I added distortion.

The playout is an online version of a subtractive synth that I could only record through the mic, using the laptop keyboard to trigger it. Necessity being the mother of invention!

I've just started a new one, which I won't go too heavily into at this point, except I'm trying to make it more organic and kind of olde worlde folk, in that I'm planning to use the voice as the main instrument. There're all sorts of reasons for this I'll go into later.

In other news, it looks like they'll be letting everyone out on the streets again before long - as if they hadn't been already. Perhaps it'll make a change from staring at the garden.
