Like the Hare Psychopathy Checklist (name-checked in 'Achievement Unlocked'), this is a real thing - and absolutely unrelated to Jeffrey Epstein! It's really along the same lines as the opening to Blade Runner, where you're trying to decide whether you're talking to a machine or not. But the inspiration came from listening to one of the kids next door shouting 'Alexa! Alexa!' and thinking how that device would react if it were a sentient being and was exposed to that kind of treatment. In my mind, it's become a guilt-free alternative to having servants. So I cooked up this conversation between man and robot. The sound effects are, once again, courtesy of Drumbit, but cut up and treated - a bit like the Radiophonic Workshop or even Milton Babbitt. Given as how electronically produced sounds still remind us principally of science-fiction, it seemed appropriate.
